Overview/Review of Aveeno's Ultra-Calming Skin Care Range.

I know I have mentioned before on here how much I love Emilynoel83 on YT - she is in fact responsible for me owning Milani blushes, Pallado herbal lip balms and for my original interest in the Aveeno Ultra-Calming skin care line. At the time I remember checking their Australian website to see if the range was available here, but alas it was not at the time.

Fast forward a few months and I was contacted by a PR rep for Aveeno following up on their generous inclusion of a Positively Radiant moisturizer in the Adelaide Beauty Conference goodie bag. I mentioned that I had tried the cleanser from this range and found it too active for my dry and sensitive skin so she kindly offered to send me the Ultra-Calming range to try instead. As you can imagine I was super-excited as Emilynoel83 (if I remember correctly) had used this when she developed dryness on her face.

I have now spent about 2 months with these products and wanted to share my thoughts. To make this review a bit quicker I'm just going to give a summary for each product and general overall comments for the range itself. This range consists of a cream cleanser, a foaming cleanser and a moisturiser with SPF 15 (yay!).

Firstly the packaging is lovely - the pump of the foaming cleanser and moisturiser worked perfectly and the cream cleanser was easy to squeeze out. I also had no issues with textures (the foaming cleanser feels like it is made of clouds) or smells as this is scent free as far as my nose could tell. Now this range includes the flower Feverfew. Aveeno claim that this flower is known for it's soothing properties and is one of nature's most powerful antioxidants. They also claim that "Formulations with Feverfew are clinically proven to visibly reduce the appearance of redness in as little as one week." With all that covered off let's see how I got on with using these products.

Aveeno Ultra-Calming Cream Cleanser
I used this one to remove my makeup at night and loved it. I had no issues with stinging eyes or dry/tight face after cleansing. I also noticed that when I exfoliated after using this cleanser my skin was less red and blotchy than usual. While I liked this cleanser and I would recommend it to anyone with dry or sensitive skin there was nothing really "wow" about it either. If I were to describe this cleanser as a horse, I'd think of the hardworking Clydesdale rather than the flashy race horse - it will get the job done every time just without the bells and whistles. And considering this is aimed at people with sensitive skin - I'm not sure we'd cope with bells and whistles anyway (I'd probably just break out). This cleanser retails for $13.99.

Aveeno Ultra-Calming Foaming Cleanser
This little buddy was my morning cleanser and just feels lovely. I loved how it made my skin feel clean in the morning without any dryness and I also noticed little red in my skin after using my face washer. I should say I don't have a lot of redness there all the time but heat, rubbing, scratching etc... will tend to leave red blotchy patches that take time to go away. I'm not sure what else to say about this one apart from I loved it, I would seriously consider buying again (once I get through my cleanser backlog) and I think it is a perfect shower cleanser to start your day. This one also retails for $13.99.

Aveeno Ultra-Calming Moisturizer with SPF15
Oh how I wanted to become BFFs with you and get rid of any need for any other day moisturiser in my life. Unfortunately for me I have trouble with SPF moisturisers generally - I've had to write off Olay, Nivea, L'Oreal products in the past that I loved because the SPF ingredients make me break out.  So I don't so much see this as a failing of this product, but a need for me to try different kinds of sunscreen ingredients. I will say this only caused a bump here and there (whereas the others caused major skin upsets) and I can't even say I've given up on this yet as I desperately want to make it work.  But if I am to provide any feedback at this point I'd have to say I'm not sure this works for me and it does have that characteristic sunscreen tackiness when first applied but that dries very quickly to give a nice natural finish. I guess my overall comment would be just use this with some caution if you have issues with SPF moisturisers generally. I certainly noticed less issues than normal and if I can find a way to make this one work for me you will be the first to know. This moisturiser retails for $24.99 but that is for 75ml (most other products I've used have only been 50mls).

Overall I am really happy I had a chance to try this range and I'm interested to see (now that I am finishing off some of the products) if there is a change in the how my skin reacts to irritations that normally cause redness.

Have you tried anything from the Aveeno range and if so how did they work for you?

Disclaimer: as mentioned above these were provided for review by PR, my words and opinions are always my own.

Emma - it def could be some more products to looks into if you already like their body stuff. I haven't tried any of their body products but sounds like I need to take a closer look.
